Ancient Times Rug Cleaning

Any rug can be cleaned, regardless of the age or value of the rug. In ancient times, the rugs would have been beat with paddles and sticks to remove the dirt.  Then the rugs were thrown into the river where they were soaked down and scrubbed.  The running water reflects the rugs and beats them against the rocks so that dirt and stains were removed.   The rugs were laid on rocks to dry.

Rug Cleaning Today

Today the steps that would be implemented would start with identifying fiber type, construction and method of dying.  The rugs would first need to be inspected to determine the structure of the rug and if there is any deterioration from wear or moth damage.  The dyes need to be checked for stability. We can set or remove the excess dye in a rug to ensure that bleeding does not occur. 

The Clene Start Process

Before the rug cleaning process can begin, we remove the dry dirt, soil, hair and lint from the rug by using air, pile lifters and vacuum systems.  This is a very important step.    The rug is then submerged in the rug bath for agitation to break down remaining stains and soil.  The rug will be flexed in the bath with a carpet roller to open up the fibers and allow the soil to be removed. If there are pet accidents, the urine and bacteria are completely removed by not only agitating and rolling the carpet fibers, but by treating the water.
After the rug cleaning process, the rugs are rinsed until the water runs clear enough to drink.  At this point all of the fringes and bindings will be given attention.  Rugs are moved to the drying room where they are moth proofed and protected with Teflon to extend the life of the rug.
